30,397 fatal crashes in the USA involved 45,230 drivers. 33,308 people were killed.

Distraction was 11% 5,084 were fatal crashes, 5,474 were caused by some form of distraction in 16% of overall fatalities this increased from 2005 at 10% to 2009 by 16% the fatal crashes increased from 2005 to 2009 by 11%.

Cell phones caused 20% of the fatal crashes 995 deaths, 16% under 20 years of age, 13% 20 to 29 years of age. Truck and motorcycles accounted for 12% each. Ages 30 to 39 created the most cell phone accidents 24%.

In 2009, 2,217,000 injury crashes, 448,000 due to distraction. 20% of all injuries. This was a 26% increase from 2005 to 2009.
